Peter Anderson

Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Transport Association

The Victorian Transport Association is proud to provide a cadetship programme for new employees, to our industry. This programme actually provides on the job training in a blended learning environment, to allow the student to be able to not only just understand that the theory, but also in the environment of an employee situation.

Employees and the employers get to work through the programme together. That's important for them to really understand how supply chain logistics works as an industry, and they can build it as a career.

Matt Whitfield

Sales Manager at Secon Freight Logistics

Secon's been involved in the VTA cadetship for seven years now. Through that time we've managed to recruit and retain a number of key staff that are still with us to this day.

So some of the skills you'll see cadets develop and grow through their time with the cadetship is effective time management, working within a team, customer service, working with other members of staff.

Watching someone walk through the door for the first time and then watching them graduate and receive their certificate. It's a very proud moment for the business and for the mentor, and one I'd highly recommend.

Teigan Manigan

VU Polytechnic alumna

I found the logistics industry to be forever changing and fast paced. No two days are ever the same, and you never know what you're gonna get. When I got offered a full-time position at Secon after my cadetship had finished, it made me feel like I was a part of the family and like I was contributing to the company.

I'll definitely recommend the cadetship to others, as it opened up a new world for me.

We're very proud of our partnership with Victoria University Polytechnic and the fact that they understand our industry, have worked hard to ensure this programme is relevant, and gives the student the right information to be able to develop a career.
