Free TAFE Aged Care

Laura Peacock:

So Free TAFE for me, kind of meant that I had more opportunity with like a range of courses. Kind of just let me jump into something that I wanted to get into. I wanted to work in an industry where I'm helping people and actually doing practical things. And I know that there's a massive shortage in aged care work and they're always looking for people to work, it always needs to be done.

Hands On Learning

Gerald Desmier:

So the best thing about the VU Polytechnic experience, I think is the practical workshops. What we were doing in the lab was, we're really putting into practise all the theory that we had learned. We had checklists of how to bed bath, how to change a bed, how to make a bed, how to use the equipment to raise the bed, to lower the bed, all the other mobility devices, showering, manual handling, wheelchair handling. So really started learning how to use all the equipment and safety.

Ada Zhou:

VU Polytechnic provides students to do the hands-on skills practise with demonstration, individual activities, and also skill practise. And at our simulated workplace environment, we also provide online learning to boost their confidence with digital skills, which is also the current industry requirement.

Connected With Industry

Ada Zhou:

Vic Uni has partnership with a lot of leading aged care organisations and to provide the working experience to our students. And also they will provide our feedback in the practise chance to ensure a way to deliver the course, yeah. To meet the current industry requirements.

Gerald Desmier:

The teachers themselves, they come to class with real life experiences, real life scenarios for us to practise. So we're very, very well prepared for what we're about to face in the industry. They also appear to have, and I think that's a trademark of Victoria University itself, they have an ability to adapt their teaching style, to the different learning styles of the students.

Laura Peacock:

There's a lot of different places that offer this qualification and I've saw that VU was one of the higher ones in the industry that gives them more practical experience and gets placement that they organise for you. And that in combination with the free TAFE was why I ended up picking VU.
