Victoria Polytechnic student’s skills were on display as they celebrated their graduation at this week’s Makeup Carnivale.
Diploma of Screen and Media (CUA51015 - Specialist Make-Up) students participated in the Makeup Carnivale as the final event before graduating from the year-long course.
Held at the Grand Hyatt, more than 400 guests including VIP’s, industry peers, friends and family came to the gala event to witness the talent of graduating students.
The event showcases student’s final works before they transition from training to industry. Attendees were provided with an opportunity to mingle with characters created by the graduating class, before being treated to a special live performance.
Student Alana Wilkie, who began the Diploma of Screen and Media (CUA51015 - Specialist Make-Up) in February of this year, took home the award for Best Body Painting on the night.
“The event was a really amazing experience. I had worked so hard all day and then to see it all come together was very satisfying. A highlight would be winning the award for Best Body Painting but also the kind people who loved my piece and congratulated me, as I did them. It was a celebration of everyone’s creativity; the best part was sharing that with everybody.”
Graduating students spent hundreds of hours working to bring the event to life. Students constructed prosthetics, designed costumes fashioned wigs and applied body and face make-up to create every aspect of their characters.

The Diploma of Screen and Media (CUA51015 - Specialist Make-Up) equips students with the range of specialist skills required for a future as a make-up artist – be it photographic, theatre, period, special effects, television, film or fashion.
It is the only make-up course in Australia to encompass fashion and the arts and offer a direct pathway into hairdressing.
