Course fees

The course fees you pay will depend on whether you are offered a government subsidised place or a full-fee place in your chosen course.

If you are enrolling as a government subsidised student, you will be required to pay a VET tuition fee and may be required to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) as well as contribute towards the cost of materials for your course.

If you are not eligible for a government subsidised place, you will be charged the full-fee tuition rate, which is inclusive of the SSAF and any material fees.

How to calculate your tuition fees

You can calculate your tuition fees using the VE/TAFE course fee document. Simply multiply the number of hours you are enrolled in by the rate per enrolled hour for your course. An indicative number of enrolled hours has been supplied for each course.

Example 1: tuition fee for a government subsidised course

You have been offered a government subsidised place in the Certificate II in Plumbing (Pre‐apprenticeship) 22569VIC and would like to calculate your tuition fees.

Government concessions

A government concession may be available to you if you are accessing a government subsidy, are enrolling into a course at a Certificate IV level or below and hold one of the following cards:

  • Commonwealth Health Care Card (holder or named dependent)
  • Pensioner Concession Card (holder or named dependent)
  • Veterans Gold Card (holder)

If you meet these requirements, you will be charged the concession rate which is equivalent to 20% of the VET tuition fee payable by non-concession students in a government subsidised place for your course.

You cannot apply for a government concession if you are enrolling into a course as a full-fee or international student.

Applying for a fee concession

To receive a concession on your tuition fees, follow these steps.

  • Go to ASK VU and click ‘email us’. Attach certified copies of both sides of your concession card and send it to us.
  • The date of the card must cover the start date of the course (first unit start date).
  • The concession card must be provided by the invoice due date or the first unit start date, whichever date is later.

You must present your concession card each academic year and for any additional enrolment.

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander student concessions

Under the Indigenous Completions Initiative, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students pay only the concession rate equivalent to 20% of the VET tuition fee for government subsidised training at any level, including at Diploma and above.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and full-time apprentices may access ABSTUDY payments through the Australian Government. ABSTUDY helps students who are studying with costs such as:

  • education
  • accommodation
  • living
  • fares to travel to your place of study each term or semester if you need to study away from home
  • prescription medicine.

Moondani Balluk at Victoria University provides help, advice and support to prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait people applying for a course.
