VU Polytechnic reopens for essential face-to-face learning

19 May 2020

Victoria University (VU) Polytechnic has reopened campus facilities to offer limited, essential face-to-face, practical learning and assessment that are critical for student progression and TAFE courses.

From 11 May, practical and hands-on learning assessments that cannot be conducted remotely will be delivered on campus to progress vocational training and allow for continued student course progression and success. Essential face-to-face learning will predominantly occur at Victoria University’s Sunshine Campus, where a majority of construction and trades programs are run. Students will also gain access to specialist music equipment at Kindred Studio, hair and beauty equipment at VU’s Moss Salon and commercial grade hospitality equipment at VU’s Footscray Nicholson campus.

Teachers and learning staff will implement tightly controlled safety measures to ensure student and community wellbeing, while continuing to deliver the skills and knowledge to supplement jobs in demand within Melbourne’s west.

During COVID-19 restrictions, VU Polytechnic quickly transitioned on-campus courses to remote and flexible digital learning. Online learning solutions have equipped teachers with innovative remote learning strategies to improve student engagement and achieve significant learning developments with digital resources. Online learning remains a core component of student learning and will continue to develop skills that are relevant to the future of work and meet the growing demand of industry workers contributing to industries such as trades, healthcare and early childhood education.

VU Polytechnic will deliver essential practical learning and course assessments adhering to all COVID-19 health regulations and social distancing practices, and will continue to upskill and progress student knowledge with access to necessary education and training.
