Volunteering for Victorian Youth Week

15 April 2019

VU Polytechnic’s cookery and event management students gave back to the local community by providing free food at the Braybrook Youth Amplified event, as part of the Victorian Youth Week festivities.

The free community event was held on 12 April at the Braybrook Hub. Other free activities at the event included live music, badge-making, sound school DJ activities, soccer and other fun activities for children.

Commercial cookery teacher Danette Haas says that supporting local events such as Youth Week gives our students the opportunity to connect with the community and industry professionals.

“It promotes active engagement into real work life scenarios and provides networking opportunities for our students.”

Victorian Youth Week is a week-long celebration of young people (aged 12–25). It gives young people a chance to express their ideas and views, and act on issues that affect their lives. Youth Week celebrates the positive contributions young people make to their communities.
