Thomas Borg wins MBAV Bricklaying Apprentice of the Year award

12 October 2020

Congratulations to VU Polytechnic bricklaying apprentice Thomas Borg who was recently awarded as the Master Builders Association of Victoria’s 2020 Bricklaying and Blocklaying Apprentice of the Year!

The Master Builders Victoria Apprentice of the Year Awards is a long-standing celebration of trade careers in the building and construction industry and provides recognition to those individuals undertaking an apprenticeship in selected building trades.

Thomas Borg, employed by Adam Cox Bricklaying, completed his Certificate III in Bricklaying/Blocklaying (CPC30111) with VU Polytechnic.

“A big thank you to Michael Cations and the other teachers at Victoria University Polytechnic. I wouldn’t have been able to get through the apprenticeship job-ready if it wasn’t for them.”

Thomas aims to upskill by taking up other construction-related courses.“I really like the idea of mentoring someone one day. I want to do an OH&S course and have a few courses under my belt. I know for a fact that doing this apprenticeship my future is going to be in construction.”

Michael Cations (Bricklaying teacher) commends Tom’s dedication and drive to succeed.

“Tom has a real passion for bricklaying. Not often you come across a student who really wants to go above and beyond when attending trade school. He makes sure he doesn’t leave the class without gaining as much knowledge as possible. His skills and craftsmanship was a standout. I’m very confident that Tom will be a successful tradesman in the not too distant future. This is not just a job for Tom - this is definitely a passion/hobby that he has turned into a career. Well done, Tom!”

Congratulations Thomas on your achievement and well-deserved award!
