Supporting women with training & employment opportunities

01 December 2020

VU Polytechnic, together with WomenCan Australia are supporting women to learn new skills and find paid employment through The Placement Circle Pilot Program.

Through this program, starting in February 2021, you can train to become a care worker by undertaking the Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015) at VU Polytechnic with access to peer support and industry placements. This course can be completed in just seven months.

Background

Research shows that women are increasingly at risk of homelessness and financial hardship as they get older. Women from diverse backgrounds are often excluded from the workforce due to caring responsibilities, time out of the workforce and being unable to find suitable work for their existing skills.

How it works

When you join the pilot program, you will become a member of The Placement Circle. This is a free membership for all women, where every participant helps other women to succeed. You will have women to help you with your studies and return to work, and then you’ll help the next round of women with their journey.

About The Placement Circle Pilot Program

We are currently running a pilot to ensure our programs meet the needs of participants with our key objective being for them to find sustainable and meaningful employment.

Participants will access:

  • subsidised vocational training (delivered by VU Polytechnic in Footscray)
  • study skills and academic support
  • a peer supported program where you can connect and get support from women just like you
  • female only classes
  • clinical placements in real workplaces, with genuine employment opportunities
  • local study and placements in their area.
