A group of students in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care embarked on a 12-day learning journey across Singapore last month, exploring the country’s early learning practices, curriculum and culture.
The study tour, hosted by partner institution ITE College (Institute of Technical Education) gave students a unique opportunity to gain important skills in cultural sensitivity and develop their confidence, in preparation for the world of work.
The group of 12 students participated in a range of practical placements at early childhood centres, alongside ITE students in the same discipline. Immersed in a new learning environment, the Polytechnic students engaged with local children and ITE students to expand their understanding of Singaporean education practices and culture.
Student Molly Gregson said the tour had been a once in a lifetime opportunity that broadened her industry knowledge and reignited her passion for teaching.

“I have appreciated meeting new people, seeing their teaching methods and their interactions with children and other educators. I truly believe this study tour extends you as an individual and as an educator, and when in the field I will be a better educator because of it.”
"Understanding and gaining knowledge about the Singaporean curriculum has really shaped my ideas on how we can make improvements and work better with children and families. I am excited to apply my knowledge and experience to our future generation of children, " Thla Hlei said.
