New facility for Victoria Polytechnic’s Western Futures program

27 September 2017

Victoria Polytechnic’s Western Futures program has a new purpose built facility at the Footscray Nicholson campus.

Located in close proximity to the library and student support services, the modern teaching space contains new IT equipment and a dedicated breakout area for students.

Victoria Polytechnic has a proud 21-year history of delivering the transitional education program in Melbourne’s west and has educated more than 400 young people with disabilities. The nationally recognised Certificate I in Transition Education provides an opportunity for students to develop independent living and working skills, and creates a pathway into further study and employment. Students gain practical employability skills through workplace visits, as well as literacy, numeracy and foundational technology knowledge.

State Member for Footscray, the Hon. Marsha Thomson, acknowledged the value of such programs in the community.

“TAFEs play a vital role across Victoria in helping disadvantaged students gain access to training and job opportunities – and the Western Futures Program is an outstanding example of this.” she said.
