Massages for a good cause

08 April 2019

WalkWest is an annual fundraiser organised by the Western Health Foundation. This year’s event, sponsored by Victoria University, was held at Footscray Park on Sunday 26 March.

VU Polytechnic remedial massage students and educators were proud supporters, offering free massages to over 1,200 participants. VU Sport also lent their expertise by providing free warm-up exercises.

The event raised over $100,000, which will go towards supporting the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s at Sunshine Hospital. Participants chose to walk or run the 2km, 5km or 10km course around the Maribyrnong River, or simply enjoy the WalkWest Village entertainment, activities and food offerings.

VU Sponsorships Support and event lead, Katrina Varveris congratulated the students on making the activation a success and supporting the community.

“The massage activation was a big hit with the crowd, with non-stop lines before and after the walk and runs. Well done to all the students who made the activation what it was and supported a wonderful community fundraiser.”
