Two Victoria Polytechnic students won awards at the recent Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Association (HBIA) Student, Apprentice and Educator Awards.
The Annual Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Association (HBIA) Awards provide an opportunity for industry leaders to recognise the talent of young achievers and encourage all who enter the industry to strive for excellence.
Of the seven Victoria Polytechnic students nominated, two took home awards. Hairdressing student Camille Tragear was awarded the Certificate III in Hairdressing award and beauty student Ashleigh Blackmore, the Diploma of Beauty Therapy award.
Camille, who will graduate with her Certificate III in Hairdressing (SHB30416) in June 2017, was nominated by her hairdressing teacher and mentor Antonelle Lindre. She credits meeting Antonelle as a critical part of the success she has gained through Victoria Polytechnic.
“Victoria Polytechnic put me in contact with Antonelle Lindrea who is and has been my primary mentor within school and life. My career so far has been short but wonderful. I gained employment (thank you to Antonelle) with an amazing hair family at Chumba Concept Salon, won HBIA student of the year for my studies in hairdressing and worked on a couple of sets”.
Ashleigh, who was nominated by her course coordinator Louise Moss, felt uncertain of what direction she was heading in life before finding the perfect course late one night while exploring the Victoria Polytechnic website.
"One night after feeling particularly lost and unfulfilled with my current life projection - I stumbled upon the Bachelor of Dermal Science degree offered at Victoria University. I couldn’t believe I could study something I actually truly enjoyed! I had finally found something worth striving toward - and that is how I ended up studying a Diploma of Beauty Therapy (SHB50115)
at Victoria Polytechnic.”
