Grand Prix Technology Takeover

18 March 2019

From March 14-17, VU Polytechnic attended the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, Innovation and Technology Hub, giving school students and the public interactive demonstrations and workshops in robotics, virtual reality and 3D printing.

Approximately 160 school students attended tailored workshops on the Thursday and Friday, learning how to bring a NAO robot to life, program an EZ-Robot, experience Virtual Reality and visualise ideas through 3D printing.

The newest member to the VU Polytechnic team, Pepper from SoftBank Robotics, made her debut at the workshops. Greeting students and teachers at the front of the marquee, Pepper introduced herself to the delight of the school kids and explained what activities they would be participating in for the day.

The Polytechnic also ran a permanent display stand across all four days, showcasing the latest in technology and the full suite of courses on offer. Over 4000 people engaged with the display and the representatives, battling EZ-Robots and chatting to the VU Polytechnic staff about how the technology is used across the curriculum and what the future holds.

The Wyndham Tech School also attended the event, partnering with GOAT VR to help students explore the science, engineering and maths behind virtual reality to understand how their pods work.
