Empowering disadvantaged youth at the KOTO workshops

14 January 2020

On the 12-13 November 2019, VU Polytechnic held workshops with KOTO, a non-profit social enterprise that empowers at-risk and disadvantaged youth held in Vietnam. KOTO stands for Know One, Teach One.

VU Polytechnic hosted four workshops across three venues in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Twenty students were chosen to participate in each workshop and were given the opportunity to learn the curriculum and culinary skills delivered at Victoria University Polytechnic, as well as gain exposure to Australian education. In the three-hour workshop, students were able to exercise their skills in French based cuisines and technique, while utilising seasonal ingredients sourced in Vietnam.

The workshops, arranged by VU International, were an opportunity to give back to underprivileged communities and to seek opportunities that could be offered to KOTO students.

KOTO's purpose is to end the cycle of poverty by empowering and helping our targeted youth to forge a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. VU Polytechnic is proud to have partnered with the social enterprise and look forward to future endeavours. A huge congratulations to Hospitality and Commercial Cookery teacher, Danette Haas, for making the workshops a success.
