Charity Dinner raises $7000 for Joseph's Corner

01 August 2019

On 26 June, 110 guests attended a six-course degustation at our student-training restaurant, VenU, for the second VU Polytechnic Charity Dinner. Staff and students prepared for the evening alongside executive chef Michael Bannerman from RACV Torquay.

Shawn Vlaeminck (Manager, Hospitality Tourism Sport & Events) says:

“It was a great second Charity Dinner supported by RACV Resorts. Thanks especially to Chef Michael Bannerman and his kitchen team from RACV Torquay. This was a wonderful experience for our students to work alongside Michael and his team to create a six-course degustation menu. They spent three days at the Polytechnic working with our students and staff and produced an amazing menu for our guests.”

VU Polytechnic’s Charity Dinner is part of Victoria University’s School for the Visitor Economy. This cross-university school will provide the hospitality and tourism industries with an increased volume of qualified professionals to support rapid growth across the sector.

All profits from the event were donated to Joseph’s Corner, a not-for-profit charitable organisation in response to the community’s need for free counselling and support for families and friends of those living with alcohol or drug addiction. Based in Melbourne's West, Joseph's Corner relies totally on donations, fundraising and profits from 'Merrijig', their opportunity shop.

Due to popular demand, we will be holding our third Charity Dinner on Wednesday 16 October - more details to come!
