Carpentry student Angus Muir wins apprentice of the year award

27 April 2020

Congratulations to VU Polytechnic carpentry apprentice Angus Muir who was recently awarded as Geelong Training Provider Apprentice of the Year!

The Western and Geelong Apprentice Awards celebrate the next generation of builders and applaud the achievements of apprentices and students in the building and construction industry for the 2019 academic year. Award winners received prizes worth over $2500.

Angus Muir, who is employed by Ronin Constructions, completed his Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30211) with VU Polytechnic in Geelong.

“A special thanks to my outstanding carpentry teacher, James Tucker. What I enjoyed the most about my training experience at VU Polytechnic was the support I received and the good working relationship with my teachers. I feel that I can still call them for advice even now that I have completed my training.”

Angus aims to upskill with a diploma qualification in the near future. “I am hoping to further my education by completing a Diploma of Building and Construction (CPC50210).”

The four apprentice winners will represent their region at the State Apprentice of the Year Awards. They will compete at state level against winners of the equivalent titles from five other regions in Victoria, to vie for the title of Regional Apprentice of the Year, and, for some, the Master Builders State Apprentice of the Year.

VU Polytechnic commenced the delivery of the Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30211) and Certificate III in Cabinet Making in Geelong in 2018.

Mark Thomson (Manager, Construction and Building Industries) says, “It’s great to see the success that our team has had in delivering carpentry in Geelong. We started this offer in 2018 and the first cycle of students are finishing up their training now. Congratulations to our students and especially Angus on winning the prestigious award.”

Congratulations Angus on your outstanding achievement!

Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) (CPC50210) is a Free TAFE course.
