Full-time hairdressing student Amy Addison was thrilled to have her hard work rewarded and was truly grateful for the support provided by her teachers.

“Honestly it was such a shock to hear my name called for this award! It's so great to have my all my hard work this year rewarded in such a big way. … I have had the most wonderful support from all my teachers, I truly could not have done any of this without their guidance and without them pushing me to reach my full potential. So thankful for all VU Polytechnic has offered me.”

HBIA Educator of the Year winner Jacinta said, “This year has opened my eyes to new dynamics in teaching, I wanted to push the boundaries and give my students new experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. It is very humbling to be acknowledged for all the hard work and dedication l have given to my industry over the years.”

Diploma of Screen Media students also showcased their work at Carnivale on November 20, stunning guests with the range and complexity of their designs. Industry guests mingled with the graduating students from the Diploma during this colourful, interactive event.

Student of the Year, Serena Zhang, used the course to step into the industry and was grateful for the support of her teachers.

“I am so glad that I made a great decision, which I decided to study in Victoria University a year ago. It was a fantastic experience. Through the year, I got so much support and help from the teachers. Not just only the skills, most importantly, they helped me a lot to step into the industry and they tried their best to build the bridge to help me to reach my dream. They always provide the students great working opportunities to enrich our experience of working in the industry. I was successfully employed by MAC Cosmetics when I was in the half way through my study, and in 4 months later, I became a MAC certified makeup artist.”

Other winners on the night included Eboni Becei (Encouragement Award), Nadia Nahreyni (Encouragement Award, Best Hair/Wig), and Matthew Beatie (Individual Character Installation).
